ENHANCED MARBLE

The images above are of the same tumbled marble mosaic medallion - the photo on the left is of the medallion with no sealer or other finish applied. The image of the same medallion on the right was taken after the medallion was treated with a solvent based color enhancing sealer.
Tumbled marble should be sealed before grouting and after to protect the marble and grout against staining, etching and water penetration. The sealer that is used will determine the finished appearance of the marble.
Many of our customers prefer the subtle, muted colors of marble in its natural state like the medallion on the left. This look is achieved by using a sealer that will not change the color of the marble yet still protect it. There are many suitable products available that are either water or solvent based. Usually the water based products have less odor and dry quickly while the solvent based products do have an odor and are flammable until dry. We personally prefer the solvent based sealers and find they penetrate better and last longer.
For those that desire deeper, more vibrant colors we suggest a color enhancing sealer like the sealer that was used on the medallion on the right. There are water based and solvent based color enhancing sealers available. We prefer the solvent based enhancer/sealers and believe they penetrate better and enhance the colors more than the water based products. We do not claim to have tested every product available so we suggest you draw your own conclusions from other sources also.
